Openinghours and Tickets
We just went for a fun day out, but the children came home with stories about knights, treasures, and secret staircases. And us? We secretly enjoyed it just as much.
Armoury
Armoury
The large square tower—or keep—of Huis Bergh Castle has been specially designed for our youngest visitors. Here, children discover how knights fought in the past and the role played by their helpers, the squires.
The tower displays not only swords and other weapons but also suits of armor. But just how heavy is a suit of armor? Visitors find this out for themselves during a playful and educational tour of the castle.
A visit to Huis Bergh Castle is thus a truly memorable experience for young adventurers.
The Bergh Mint
The Bergh Mint
The Lords and Counts of Bergh operated several mints at or near their castles. Of these former minting sites, only the one at 's-Heerenberg has survived.
Coinage production flourished, particularly during the 16th century. Monetary systems expanded rapidly across Europe, driven in part by increased silver supplies from Central Europe and imports from South America. At the same time, there was a growing need to control and centralize the minting process in order to curb abuses and better regulate revenues.
Consequently, there was less room for private mints. Although the lords holding minting rights resisted the new rules for as long as possible, stricter government regulations ultimately led to the closure of the Bergh mints.
Today, you can experience this history firsthand at Huis Bergh Castle. Minting demonstrations take place every Sunday at 1:00 PM and 2:30 PM. In July and August, demonstrations are also held on Thursdays. Why not come and see for yourself?
A castle feast!
A castle feast!
The highest tower room at Huis Bergh Castle is being prepared for a grand celebration: the wedding of Count Willem and Maria van Nassau. But there is still work to be done, and your help is needed!
What will be served at the banquet, what will the guests drink, and what kind of music is fitting for a true medieval celebration? Is there enough festive attire, and who should actually be invited? Visitors help make these choices, discovering through play how a castle came to life in days gone by.
Children learn about life in a medieval castle in a fun, interactive way—covering everything from food and drink to social ranks and status. Come and discover it for yourself by joining in the fun during a visit to Huis Bergh.
