Minting demonstration

Every Sunday at 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM, there is a minting demonstration in the keep.

In July and August, there is also a demonstration on Thursdays at 1:00 PM and 2:00 PM.

The minting demonstration is included in the in the admission price.

For centuries, the rhythm of hammers striking silver and gold echoed through ’s-Heerenberg. The coins were more than just a means of payment; they were symbols of power and prestige. Coinage flourished in the 16th century, but so did controversy: Huis Bergh gained notoriety for its unauthorized minting operations. Eventually, in 1582, the Republic banned private minting—marking the end of an era. Inside the keep, the minters share more about this history and their craft. During the demonstration, you can even strike your own coin for a small fee!

Experience the history. Strike your own coin.

Duration: Approximately 60 minutes.

City walk

You can join a city walk in 's-Heerenberg every Sunday at 11:30 a.m. The walk can be booked for €5.00 per person.

During this historic city walk, the guide takes you past the city's many historic buildings and remarkable sites. You will learn about the earliest settlement, subsequent urban expansions, and the close bond between the city and Huis Bergh Castle.

The route follows the old ramparts and includes a detour to the oldest documented garden in the Netherlands. You will also pass the kaatsbaan (an old ball-game court); the guide will explain exactly what this is along the way.

The tour also highlights notable historical figures—and not just those who lived in the castle. For instance, you will hear the story of Mechteld ten Ham, who was burned at the stake in 1605. The guide will provide further details during the walk.

Tickets can be booked online or purchased at the ticket office.

Duration: Approximately 90 minutes.
