Maintenance work on the Tower Mill taking longer

The Tower Mill of Zeddam is currently under scaffolding for maintenance work on the masonry joints. The work began last week, and after the first week, it became clear that completing the maintenance project will take longer than expected.

Maintenance service

Since late June, the Tower Mill has been encased in scaffolding for maintenance on the masonry. This project had been in preparation for several years, and the time had come to carry out this maintenance work on the mill.

The mill dates from around 1440 and is one of the most important monumental mills in the Netherlands.

It is not yet entirely clear how much longer the work will take; it involves a few extra weeks. The Huis Bergh Foundation, the mill's owner, had hoped the work could be completed before the summer construction holidays, but unfortunately, that is not feasible.

The brickwork and mortar were inspected using a drone; however, it has now emerged that excessively hard mortar caused damage to the underlying brickwork.

Due to the maintenance work, the windmill is unfortunately closed to visitors.

With a windmill that is nearly 600 years old, the quality of the work is more important than speed. And what we do, we do well.
